John F. Mahon
is Professor of Management and the first John M. Murphy Chair of International Business Policy and Strategy at the Maine Business School, University of Maine. Prior to his appointment at Maine, Professor Mahon held the position of Professor of Strategy and Policy and Chair of the Strategy and Policy Department at the School of Management at Boston University. He received his D.B.A from Boston University, his M.B.A. from Bryant College (with honors), and his B. S. in Economics from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. He has authored or
co-authored over 85 papers and book chapters. He is also the co-author of an introductory text in management, and the author or co-author of over 70 cases in strategy, general management, and public policy/public affairs.
Professor Mahon was awarded the Issue Management Council’s Intellectual Leadership Award, the first ever given to an academic for the impact his research and executive education has had on the discipline and practice of issues management. Professor Mahon and colleagues won an “Outstanding Achievement in Leadership Preparation by Colleges and Universities” from the American Association of School Administrators for the Boston Leadership Academy. It was one of only two awards given nationally.
He has also won numerous awards for his teaching excellence at the local and national level. Professor Mahon has taught in a variety of executive education programs in University settings, and has served as an executive educator and/or consultant for a variety of Fortune 500 firms.
Professor Mahon has served as the Chair of the Social Issues in Management Division of the National Academy of Management, and as President (and co-founder) of the International Association for Business and Society, and has co-founded another group—Business Issues and Society. Professor Mahon is Associate Editor of Business and Society and serves on several editorial boards.
